Aerial Video Production for William's Social Media Campaign

Introduction: In this case study, we delve into a project that entailed creating aerial video content for a social media campaign initiated by William’s, a renowned entity in the motorsport industry. The goal was to seamlessly integrate aerial footage with ground-level cinematography and capture the essence of the William’s factory and its surroundings in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. 

Project Overview: Upon receiving a request from a production company, the project was centred around producing aerial video content that aligned harmoniously with cine ground cameras, maintaining visual consistency. The chosen format for the aerial footage was ProRes, ensuring high-quality output that met the campaign’s standards. 

Equipment Selection: To execute the project successfully, the team utilised the DJI Inspire 2 drone, renowned for its capability to capture footage in ProRes format. The usage of DJI SSDs (Solid State Drives) facilitated efficient data storage and retrieval. Additionally, the Mavic 3 drone was also employed to support the project’s requirements. 

Location and Filming: The filming took place at the William’s factory located in the picturesque Oxfordshire countryside. The primary objective was to capture captivating footage of both the serene countryside and the factory premises. Collaborating closely with the director, the team embarked on capturing scenes that would seamlessly integrate into the storyline envisioned for the social media campaign. 

Collaborative Filmmaking: During the filming process, the team worked closely with the director to ensure alignment with the creative vision. The team spent dedicated hours capturing footage in collaboration with the director, focusing on the scenic surroundings and the factory’s intricate details. This collaboration allowed for a coherent narrative to unfold through both the aerial and ground-level shots. 

Creative Freedom and Solo Filming: After fulfilling the directed shots, the team was granted creative freedom to explore and capture additional content that could enhance the campaign’s storytelling. With the knowledge of the campaign’s narrative, the team captured shots that could be seamlessly integrated into the storyline, adding depth and authenticity to the visuals. 

Cinematic Sunset Shot: One of the standout shots captured was a breath-taking sunset over the William’s factory. This captivating imagery was integrated into the William’s F1 banner, contributing to the campaign’s visual impact and setting an atmospheric tone for the promotion. 

Conclusion: This case study illustrates the successful execution of an aerial video project for William’s social media campaign. By employing advanced equipment capable of capturing ProRes footage, collaborating closely with the director, and combining cinematic aerial shots with ground-level visuals, the project achieved its goal of seamlessly integrating aerial content into the campaign’s narrative.
